Floridians Have Less Wage Cuts Than Rest of U.S.

Thursday 26 Mar 2015

I read an interesting article in the South Florida Business Journal this week explaining the fact that according to study from the ADP Research Institute, a smaller percentage of Floridians have their wages garnished than across the nation.

The reason behind this is that there are a lower number of manufacturing jobs and certain state laws limiting the maximum number of wages that can be garnished factored into the percentage of Floridians with garnished wages.  This results in 4.8 percent of Florida employees compared to 7.2 percent of employees across the nation having a portion of their wages taken out each paycheck to cover debts such as child support or student loans. The study also found that 5.2 percent of manufacturing companies, that tend to have a higher rate of garnishment than in the professional industry, in Florida have employees with garnished wages compared to 10.2 percent nationally.
