New Employment Application Ban

As I’m always interested in what’s going on with employment regulations, I was interested in an article I came across on the Huffington Post surrounding how the application process may become easier for job seekers with criminal records. Branding yourself as a felon is slowly becoming a requirement of the past. Many states have decided to stop asking applicants about their criminal history for government jobs, with Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Rhode Island even branching into the private sector.

New ban-the-box laws do not force employers to hire criminals. Instead, they give all applicants equal opportunity by stopping businesses from saying no before going through the interview process. Even with the ban, background checks will continue to give interviewers a glimpse into the history of potential candidates.
