New Miami Courthouse Campaign Continues

Friday 26 Sep 2014

In a follow-up to one of my earlier posts, the campaign for a new Miami Courthouse continues, as lawyers and community members join together in fundraising efforts.

Attorneys are saying that say it’s time for voters to approve a measure to fund construction of a new home for civil litigation, to be on the ballot November 4. A group called Building Blocks for Justice has been formed with the goal of raising up to $1.5 million to help persuade voters to raise their property taxes in order to build a 600,000-square-foot courthouse in downtown Miami, replacing the 1928 building. The website Buildingblocksforjustice.com describes how the courthouse at 73 W. Flagler St. is increasingly unsafe, unhealthy and inadequate.

The Miami-Dade County Commission voted on September 3 put the matter on the ballot and now it will be in the hands of the voters.
